Making Orthodox Communities Transgender Inclusive: Visions and Experiences from the Field

Session: Based on his PhD dissertation on transgender with an Orthodox background, the presenter will discuss the ways in which participants in the study envisioned more inclusive Orthodox communities, as well as their own experiences– positive and negative– of transgender inclusion. (Second of two lectures in the series, each one can be attended independently).
Bio: Oriol Poveda is originally from Barcelona and in 2017 he obtained his PhD in sociology of religion at Uppsala University, Sweden. Previously, he earned a MA in Jewish Studies and Philosophy at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and worked in Mexico and Israel/Palestine in different grassroots media projects.
